Jesse McCulloch's Summit For Someone Climb

About Me
I am a 24 year old EMT from Hillsboro, Oregon. I work for a company called American Medical Response, who happens to be the largest private ambulance company in the United States. I have worked there for almost four years now. At the beginning of this year I became involved in a special program AMR has here in the Portland area called the Reach and Treat Team, or RAT Team. The RAT Team is a group of specially trained EMT's and Paramedics that provide advanced life support treatment in wilderness and alpine environments. Our company covers a large part of Mount Hood, and as such, the RAT Team members are trained in all sorts rescues, such at high-angle, low angle, alpine, crevasse, and backcountry. I started training for the team along with 14 others back in February of 2005 and completed my training in December 2005. Our training included navigation, night operations, glacier travel, ice climbing, rock climbing, swift-water rescue, canyoneering, litter tending, advanced life support in the vertical realm, and much more.

About Summit for Someone and Big City Mountaineers
Big City Mountaineers is a non-profit agency dedicated to giving at-risk teens a chance at a better life through the outdoors. Big City Mountaineers gives at-risk teens a chance to experience the outdoors in a structured supportive environment. This is done during an eight-day outdoor experience, with five of the days spent on a backpacking expedition. These expeditions are done in small groups of five teens, one adult counselor, and four adult volunteers. The cost of sending five teens and an adult counselor on this trip is $3500. This cost is completely covered by Big City Mountaineers. To raise money for these trips, Big City Mountaineers has set up a program called Summit For Someone. Summit for Someone is a fundraiser in which participants collect pledges to take part in a guided mountain climb. Each participant agrees to raise $3500, the cost to send a group of teens through the Big City Mountaineer program. In exchange for raising this money, Big City Mountaineers has arranged several guide companies to donate guided climbs of various mountains, and has arranged many gear companies to donate gear.

My Goal and Climb
My goal is to raise at least the $3500 needed to send a group of teens through the Big City Mountaineers program. I hope to do this through generous donations from friends, family, and local businesses. I have already signed the agreement to raise the money. Now all I need is YOUR HELP. The climb I will be participating in is Mount Olympus, in Washington. It is a four-day trip starting in July. I have until June to raise the money. If you would like to donate, even a little amount, please visit my donation page accessed from the left side menu. Please continue to check back, as I will be adding pictures of my various training outings and updating the journal almost every day. Also, please sign my guest book so I know who was here.

Again, many thanks,
Jesse McCulloch
